El 'VII International Congress of young researchers with a gender perspective' It is carried out with the aim of serving as a meeting point between the branches of knowledge that apply the gender perspective to their objects of study. During the three days (June 15, 16 and 17) that the event lasts, there will be structured presentations in different thematic areas. The Congress will take place at the Quintana headquarters of the Rey Juan Carlos University.

"We have grouped many speakers by thematic areas or by objects of study," says Marian Blanco, professor of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising and Organizer of the Congress.

Thus, the attendees will be able to learn about different communications in areas such as: Literary Studies, Social Analysis, Sexual Violence, Humanities, Communication, History, Law and Public Policies and Engineering.

In addition, there will be 3 framework presentations that will be given by prominent academics and researchers: Rosa San Segundo, professor at the Carlos III University of Madrid and president of the Management Board of EUFEM (Platform for feminist and gender studies) will be in charge of the inauguration and will deliver the conference 'Feminist epistemology for scientific knowledge'. In it she will reflect, Professor Blanco points out, "on how the androcentric vision of science has eliminated women from the construction of incomplete knowledge, one half of which is missing."

In addition, Mónica Alario, a young researcher with a doctorate in Interdisciplinary Gender Studies from the URJC, will speak on 'Sexual Politics of Pornography'.

On the other hand, Professor Victoria Showumi from the 'Institute of Education, University College London' will participate in the congress. The British teacher, with her talk 'Let's talk about intersectionality: Gender, Race and Class', will reflect on the need to introduce these three elements when doing research with a gender perspective so as not to fall into bias.

Workshops and scientific 'Speed Dating'

The congress will also feature practical sessions. "We intend that the attendees take a complete learning from the conference," says Marian Blanco. To this end, various workshops have been scheduled on how to correctly apply the gender perspective in research and on seeking new and interesting research questions to find different and innovative answers. The first activity will be carried out by Clara Sainz de Baranda, director of the Institute of Gender Studies of the Carlos III University. The second workshop will be given by personnel from the GEA21 Consultant, with extensive experience in advising institutions on gender issues.

The participants will also be able to participate in some quick meetings with senior teachers related to their object of study or their area of knowledge, who will be able to advise them regarding the focus of their research.

“We want the congress to serve for young scientists to meet and get to know each other. We have established a limit of 5 years from when the theses are submitted to ensure that they are researchers who are in the early stages of their scientific careers”, indicates Marian Blanco.

An opportunity for all those who are starting out in the world of research to learn first-hand how to provide their studies with a vision without which science is incomplete.
