The satellite team of the Cosmos Aerospace Association, made up of several engineering students from the Rey Juan Carlos University, He launched on September 8 the Cosmo Sat-1 satellite into the stratosphere. The group had been working on the project since January, which has consisted of the design, manufacture and testing of a CubeSat, a standard nanosatellite design.

The objective of this launch has been to make a first test of microwave remote transmission technology, in order to continue developing it to launch Cosmo Sat-1 into outer space.

The terrestrial observation satellite has been manufactured by a team of 20 people, who have worked since the beginning of the year to carry out the project. The launch, carried out from the León military airfield, has been a success "thanks to the dedication of all the members and the extra work that has been done," according to Daniel Pavón, co-director of the Cosmos satellite team.

The Association has wanted to show its gratitude to the URJC for the help and funding received and has insisted on the importance of “supporting this type of work in the future”, says Pavón.

On the other hand, Cosmos has recognized the work of GISAT, the consolidated Research Group on Aerospace and Transport Systems of the URJC, and of the ETSIT, the School of Engineering of the Fuenlabrada Campus, since without their intervention this launch would not have been possible. He has also noted the work of B2Space, the company contracted to launch the satellite, for the extensive training on space vehicles received.

This project is part of the agreement signed by the Cosmos Association and the Fuenlabrada City Council for the development of two research projects: one is the Cosmo Sat-1 and the other is the manufacture of a drone for use in natural disasters.
