In this edition of the Talent and Technology Awards, organized by the Madrid City Council, two URJC students have won two prizes of €1.500 for their final postgraduate projects.

The student Medina Ayta Mohammed, from the Master's Degree in Business Organization, has received the award for the best Master's Thesis applied to Fintech. The title of her research is 'Cryptocurrency Adoption by Multinational Companies: A Technological Analysis'.

According to Mohammed, his intention has been "to investigate the different characteristics of cryptocurrencies and how they can be used in a corporate context." Furthermore, he adds that he did “research during COVID and it was challenging. I want to take this opportunity to thank my director, Professor Carmen De Pablos Heredero, for all her work, for directing me and inspiring me to follow this line of research”.

The student, graduated in Business Administration and Management, is currently enrolled in the second year of doctorate. “My plan for the future is to pass on the knowledge and skills I gained from my teachers to the next generation while giving them the support they deserve,” she says.

Mohammed has felt these awards as "a boost that will serve to put even more effort and determination into the work, and thus make a significant contribution in the field". Although she was unable to be there due to a stay in the UK, Mohammed "was very excited" and she recognizes that the prize is a motivation to continue working hard.

For his part, Antonio del Bosque, a graduate in Materials Engineering and Industrial Organization, has seen his TFM recognized with the award for Best Project, in the New Mobility category.

As he relates, his interest in research arose as a result of completing the Final Degree Projects, "in which I began to investigate in the area of Materials Engineering with a collaboration grant." Upon completing his training with the Master's Degree in Materials Processing Technologies, he brought together all the knowledge he had acquired in his TFM and developed what would be the award-winning research, 'Development and characterization of solid polymeric electrolytes for structural supercapacitors'.

Although the title may seem untranslatable, Del Bosque explains very simply why it has won the award in the New Mobility category. In his research, he proposes "a new form of mobility in which vehicles that have Smart Mobility, such as drones, autonomous vehicles or helicopters, are integrated with a specific material that performs 2 functions: it stores energy while being part of of the structure. It is as if a car door, apart from acting as a door, could accumulate energy”, he adds.

Since the end of the Double Degree, Del Bosque has been recognized for his work with several awards; He was selected as the 2nd best student in Materials Engineering in the entire country and his TFM was the winner of the MATERPLAT Award for Young Innovators in Materials in the 2020 edition.

Currently, the young engineer is in his third year of doctoral studies, together with the directors María Sánchez, professor at the URJC, and Alejandro Ureña, director of the ESCET. “Right now I am on a research stay at the Politecnico di Milano applying for an international doctorate. The thesis that I am doing is on 'Nanoreinforced polymers for the monitoring of movements of human beings'”, he comments.

Regarding the Talent and Technology Awards, Del Bosque wants to “thank the Madrid City Council for its work, for organizing the event and encouraging research. This is a recognition of the hard work and one more motivation to continue presenting myself when I do the thesis”.
