The badass, the culture of the street, the marginal and even the criminal, have always provoked an ambivalent sensation of terror and fascination in societies. This has caused this concept to remain in the collective imagination, being updated every decade.

To analyze the presence and influence of this world, the URJC has organized the conference 'Macarra culture: youth subcultures, consumption and media (October 26, Assembly Hall of the Management Building. Fuenlabrada Campus), which will feature, among others, the participation of the writer José Ángel Mañas, author of the novel 'Historias del Kronen' and the anthropologist and collaborator in the media communication, Iñaki Domínguez. In addition, the day is completed with the participation of experts in sociology and anthropology from the URJC and UDIMA.

"We have organized the conference with a less academic and more 'street' approach," says Antonio Martín-Cabello, coordinator of the conference together with Almudena Manso and professor in the Sociology area, who points out that the motivation for organizing the conference is, " a certain revival of 'pranksterism' that is seen in the press and in the cinema, with the appearance of films that recover the spirit of quinqui cinema or the image of C. Tangana or Rosalía'.

Registrations for the day are open, although they are going at a good pace. The event is open to anyone who is interested in discovering or delving into the knowledge of this universe. URJC students who attend will receive 0 RAC credits.

An opportunity to get to know in depth a world, that of the pimp, that of the street, that has terrified and fascinated alike and that has inspired all kinds of novels, movies and television series for decades.
