Award for bringing the reality of the company closer to the classroom Award for bringing the reality of the company closer to the classroom

A practical case devised by URJC accounting professors wins first prize in a contest organized by the Spanish Association of University Accounting Professors (ASEPUC)

Raul Garcia Hemonnet

The teachers decided to transfer the accounting reality of a transport company and designed a practical case with real documentation. "It was about transferring to the classroom an accounting operation that a company would have", explains Sandra Flores Ureba, professor of Accounting at the URJC and one of those responsible for this work together with Vera Gelashvili, Alba Gómez Ortega, Mª Carmen Jiménez Ariza, Silvia Leal de la Peña, Leonor Mora Agud, Cristina Pérez Rico and Miguel Ángel Sánchez de Lara.

The work has won, last week, the First Prize in the VII ASEPUC Award contest for practical cases applicable to master's degrees in accounting and auditing (2022), convened by the Association itself and the Audit Chair of the University of Zaragoza.

Thanks to the case study designed by URJC teachers, students have been able to replicate the work of any financial manager. See if everything is correct, if any adjustment needs to be made and make the accounting record. The objective, explains Professor Flores, is “it is the application of this case to accounting software. Bring a real operation to the classroom”.

“This award serves to give visibility to the accounting area of the University”, explains the professor that “bringing reality closer to the classroom improves the motivation of the students and helps them a lot in the development of skills and the acquisition of knowledge. It motivates them because they see a real application of what they learn”. The URJC professor points out.
