This Friday, December 16, the Vicálvaro URJC University Association for the Elderly (Aumavic) has prepared a Christmas concert to bid farewell to the year 2022.

The event will be held in the assembly hall of the Madrid campus library and the performers will be the group 'Ensemble Komitas Carm', from the High Performance Center of the Alfonso X El Sabio University. The concert will begin at 19:00 p.m. and admission is free until full capacity is reached.

According to Felipe Pinilla, president of Aumavic, tells us, "the association has been organizing this concert and working on it for a long time, since the return from the summer holidays." When asked, he tells us that the concert repertoire "will be entertaining music, from the classics of Vivaldi or Tchaikovsky to something more upbeat by Albéniz or Gardel." Also, taking advantage of the dates, some Christmas carols will be sung to welcome Christmas.

In addition to concerts, Aumavic has organized many other activities that have given life to the group of older students from Vicálvaro. Recently, the Association has carried out the First Short Story and Photography Contest for members and, despite the difficulties, "the results seem surprisingly good to us", confesses Pinilla.

"This is the first year that we do the story and photography contest and this Christmas concert and our intention is that both things remain," says the president of Aumavic. In addition, Pinilla tells of the future project they have with the short story contest; "The idea is that the contest be expanded so that more people can participate, first all the senior citizens of Vicálvaro and, later, all the members of the senior citizens' associations of all the universities of Madrid."

The origin of the Association dates back to the times of COVID, when Felipe Pinilla began to investigate and saw "that there was no association for the elderly on the Vicálvaro campus." By discussing it with some colleagues and fixing the bureaucratic framework, Aumavic was born in 2021.

"At the beginning we started doing routes through Madrid since I am a cultural volunteer," says Pinilla. “We go to theatres, museums, palaces… we organize a trip and a conference and the truth is that the Association has been growing a lot. We are currently 150 members and last year we did more than 25 activities that were attended by more than 700 people”.
