Today, January 20, has been led by the appointment of Miguel Cuerdo Mir as dean of the newly formed Faculty of Economics and Business Sciences.

The event took place on the Madrid campus and was attended by the rector of the URJC, Javier Ramos, and other members of the university community.

Thanking the professors who have helped him become interested in the economy, Miguel Cuerdo began his speech by remembering "my classmates, friends today, before and now, and thanking them for their personal and institutional loyalty throughout this journey."

For the start of this faculty, Sane wanted to refer to the Schumpeterian concept of 'creative destruction', developed in the book Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy. “The underlying idea is that it is necessary to assume that businesses and companies must be understood from a dynamic perspective, and explains that not everything related to destruction must be understood as negative, but rather that it can be an opportunity to create something new, something different. , something that can improve the above. Transferring this idea to the new faculties, ours was born as a consequence of an evident exercise of creative destruction, which has culminated in the four new faculties”, explained Cuerdo.

Referring to the former FCJS, the new dean has remarked “the intimate ties, of affection, respect and admiration with the academics of legal and political sciences, with whom many experiences unite us. It has even been possible to develop a not inconsiderable interdisciplinary dialogue that has favored very profitable lines of research”.

The rector, Javier Ramos, has pointed out "the personal talent and professional career that endorse Miguel Cuerdo as the right person to entrust the implementation of this faculty." In addition, he has pointed out the difficult task of "finding people willing to face these great challenges, at a time when the economy and the company are subject to dizzying changes and threats."

Citing the transforming power of education, Ramos has valued “economic sciences as sciences that generate prosperity. There is no greater wealth than the well-being of a society, and it is on this well-being that future generations will have to transform the world, improve it and make it more sustainable”.
