The rector of the URJC, Javier Ramos, and the councilor for the Housing Area, Álvaro González López, today presented the team made up of specialized professors from this university, who will cooperate with the Housing and Rehabilitation Observatory of the City of Madrid.

By signing this agreement, the URJC will collaborate with the City Council, through the various degrees it offers, creating a multidisciplinary work and research team to cooperate in the studies and analysis of the City Observatory for Housing and Rehabilitation from Madrid.

Specifically, the Rey Juan Carlos University will analyze "the land market and the built real estate product, as well as the subsidy plans for housing and rehabilitation of other public administrations and those from European funds", as explained in the text of the agreement. Likewise, "the present and future of housing in Madrid will be investigated and proposals will be put forward to face the main challenges in this area," the agreement indicates.

On the other hand, work will be done on the evolution of the housing stock for tourist use, including the study of the residential framework where its implementation has become widespread.

The multidisciplinary nature of the Rey Juan Carlos University allows these investigations and studies to be carried out from the most varied points of view (economics, business, tourism, law, architecture, or engineering, among others).

According to the Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Transfer, Fernando García Muiña, “this action demonstrates the URJC's openness and commitment to the transfer of knowledge to its closest economic, social and institutional environment. In this particular case, the University contributes significantly to the fulfillment of the SDGs defined in the 2030 Agenda, specifically SDG number 11, focused on achieving more inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities”.

Through this agreement, the two institutions will be able to carry out work with the idea of finding innovative solutions to the challenge presented by the housing market in Madrid. Access to housing is one of the main concerns of the young population of the city.

On February 1, the second session of the Observatory will be held, where the Agreement signed with the URJC will be presented in detail and the conclusions of the different studies carried out will be presented, focused on three aspects: access to housing-common analysis parameters , improvements in accessibility and improvements in habitability.
