Today, January 27, the Rey Juan Carlos University has organized an event for the feast of Santo Tomás de Aquino, patron saint of Universities and main representative of scholastic education.

The event, held in the assembly hall of the rectory on the Móstoles campus, was attended by various representatives of the members of the university community: students, professors, deans and directors of the School, the government team, former rectors and the current rector of the URJC, Javier Ramos.

After the interpretation of the "Veni Creator Spiritus" by the URJC Choir, the rector welcomed those present and announced the delivery of medals to the PAS and PDI staff of the University. The General Secretary, Pilar Trinidad Núñez, has been in charge of awarding the awards.

Next, the student Dária Efimova spoke on behalf of the students, emphasizing the great privilege of being able to study at the university. “Today, not even public universities are within the reach of those who want to be part of them, the truth is that education continues to be a dream for millions of people in the world and it is precisely for those people that we must fight to improve the world”, commented Efimova.

Next, María Ángeles Martín Moreno spoke on behalf of the administration and services staff of the University. Present since the beginning of the URJC, Moreno has recalled the moments in which he saw the birth and growth of this University "with the same illusion that we had then in each and every thing we did."

"The PAS staff of this university were able to organize and put everything into operation during the first years, and we have also been able to face the changes required by the modernization of society." To end his speech, Moreno wanted to thank "the rector for the invitation to participate in this event and the URJC, for allowing me to attend his birth in the front row and for allowing me to grow personally and professionally."

For her part, Professor Carmen Gallardo has taken over speaking on behalf of the URJC research teaching staff. “The festivity that we celebrate today reminds us that we are part of a great common project of knowledge and knowledge, through science, education and culture. This project that is the University, whose origins date back to the Middle Ages, is still more alive than ever”, she assured.

Referring now to young people and the future of the university, Gallardo has pointed out the importance “of teaching always placing the student at the center of the board. That the students go through the University, but that the University also go through them”.

Finally, the rector of the URJC, Javier Ramos, recalled "what is special about today" and wanted to "congratulate all those who have received recognition today because thanks to all of you and your work we have come this far today" .

After these first 25 years of the URJC, Ramos wanted to remember the true fundamental pillar on which the University is built: the students. "The firm purpose of any university is to train free, committed, reflective, critical people and above all capable of writing the future of humanity." For this reason, Ramos has announced one of the projects for the coming years; create the URJC Student House.

Acknowledging the work "of the 25th Anniversary Commission, the PAS and teaching staff and all those who have made it possible for the University to function as it has done", Ramos wanted to stress the importance of these centers of knowledge to fight "against the three giants that Cervantes faced Don Quixote: injustice, fear and ignorance”.
