Last week the International Tourism Fair, FITUR, took place in Madrid, held without restrictions for the first time since the pandemic caused by COVID-19.
The Rey Juan Carlos University, as has happened in previous years, has been present at this event in different ways.
A total of 17 Tourism degree students have participated, collaborating with the Instituto Tecnológico Hotelero (ITH) in disseminating the latest innovations in the world of hotels at information points in the 'FiturTechy' forum. The place of the Fitur where the future of the sector is discussed, where they coincided with the minister.
According to Teresa Villacé, a professor in the Department of Business Economics and coordinator of this collaboration between the URJC and the ITH for several years, "students have been delighted because when they enroll they have no idea what they are going to do next." to do, they have compiled cards and have been able to leave CVs in important companies in the sector, thus getting closer to the industry”.
From the ITH the evaluation of the students' performance has been “very positive due to the commitment shown”, adds the professor.
The degree in Services Engineering, recognized by Meliá
The Spanish tourism group has given recognition to the URJC Service Engineering degree for its collaboration and closeness with companies, during the celebration of FITUR. The diploma was received by the degree coordinator, Esperanza Marcos. At the same event, some of the undergraduate students were able to talk with the CEO of Meliá Hotels International, Gabriel Escarrer, who, among other things, recommended "training, lots of training, getting out of your comfort zone and traveling."
He also made reference to the fit that graduates in Service Engineering have in a business group like Meliá, due to its "interdisciplinary profile".
