The URJC Technology-Based Company has been chosen as a finalist of the Transfer Forum, where various Startups have presented their scientific and technological innovation projects.

The participation of the Rey Juan Carlos University in the European Forum for Science, Technology and Innovation TRANSFIERE has left one of the EBTCs of the University as a finalist. The name of the Technology-Based Company (EBTC) is SEDDI/Desilico, a project that develops software for the digitization and 3D simulation of materials, garments, and people in the field of fashion.

According to Jorge López Moreno, professor of Architecture and Computer Technology at the URJC and scientific director of SEDDI, “Desilico was the original name with which we founded the company in July 2017, as an SL owned by URJC. That same year we partnered with investors and experts from the fashion industry to found SEDDI in the US and we currently have offices in Spain, Canada and New York”.

All of this was possible thanks to the exchange of shares with the four founders, URJC researchers Gabriel Cirio and Eder Miguel, Professor Miguel Ángel Otaduy and Jorge López Moreno. According to the latter, the URJC also helped move the project forward, "since an agreement was signed for the transfer of technology and the first 2 million euros were invested."

The vice-rector for Research, Innovation and Transfer of the URJC, Fernando García Muiña, wanted to point out that "consolidating the transfer of knowledge through the creation of EBTC is a priority for the university, which will not only impact our research community but also in the economic and social environment." Being the URJC body that promotes this type of project, "from the office of the vice-rector we are determined to incorporate incentives that promote these entrepreneurial initiatives among our researchers", García Muiña pointed out.

When talking about his participation in the Transfer 2023 Forum, Professor López Moreno believes "that we were chosen as finalists because of the scope and depth of our technologies: it has taken more than 7 years of work to reach its commercialization." Currently, the company has more than 10 patents in areas as diverse as hardware, mechanical simulation, rendering or machine learning (AI) applications, and they have already developed two products. In addition, he adds, "we have 11 PhDs on staff and thanks to the quality of our research we have captured more than 5 million just in public and tax aid for R&D".

The winner of the Forum was 2Eyes2Vision, which, in the words of López Moreno, “has a very interesting proposal, with solid technology and a product that is about to scale to achieve far-reaching marketing. The award can be of great help in your case, the truth is that I really liked the projects that were selected and I honestly believe that anyone deserved the award”.

Now, after the intervention in Transfers, the objective of SEDDI/Desilico is to obtain an investment round to ensure the launch of a third product and consolidate the other two that they already have. The first of them, called 'Texture', allows textiles and other materials to be scanned in order to create the material of the garments digitally; the second, 'Author', is an advanced simulation of fabrics, where the garment is made virtually. The third, still being tested, is a virtual fitting room app so that garments can be tried on mannequins with specific measurements. This last product is called 'fitroom'.

Regarding the Forum, the scientific director of SEDDI wanted to "encourage other companies that have demonstrated viability and are in the investment search phase to participate in this type of initiative to expand their market".
