Like other public universities in Madrid, the Rey Juan Carlos University is one of the centers where the chemistry test is carried out in the capital of Spain.

Today, Friday, March 10, the regional phase of the Madrid Chemistry Olympiad (OQM) 2023 is celebrated. The event is face-to-face and has several Madrid public universities as venues, including the URJC.

The organizer of the OQM is the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry and the objective is to elect the representatives of the country for the coming international phases.

According to Jesús María Arsuaga, head of the Olympic Organizing Committee, tells us, “these international tests are the Ibero-American Chemistry Olympiad and the International Chemistry Olympiad, which will be held in June in Zurich. For the selected students, these competitions are a very nice and enriching experience, and it is fortunate that students can have these opportunities. That is why, now, this Olympics is held in Madrid to choose the representatives in the national phase, where the participants of the world events will be chosen”.

With respect to the venues, and despite the fact that all the candidates for the Madrid Olympics could fit into the same university, "this is a good way of giving everyone a chance and not forcing students to go to a center away from their neighborhoods. For this reason, the centers of our environment come to be examined here, in Móstoles”, points out Arsuaga.

Specifically, the centers attached to the URJC are eleven schools and institutes in the Móstoles area. Among them is the Colegio Villa de Griñón, the IES Clara Campoamor or the IES la Senda.

The number of students that will be examined at this University is 38. The other universities that are host have 47 students (UAM), 52 (UCM), 24 (UNED) and 44 (UPM). In total, the number of participants in the Madrid Olympics is 205 students.

The test will begin at 17:30 p.m. simultaneously in all the chosen centers, although it is recommended to be at the assigned venue at least 15 minutes before.

When asked about the expected results, Jesús Arsuaga assures that "Madrid centers usually have very good results and, on several occasions, very good candidates for the National Phase have come out of the Madrid Olympiad".

Mentions and prizes will be awarded on March 15, 2023, at 18:XNUMX p.m. in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Chemistry of the Complutense University of Madrid (in the main building of said Faculty, ground floor).
