This I Conference has served for the teams of the Madrid universities responsible for the application of the new Law of University Coexistence to share where they are with regard to the implementation of this regulation.

During the event, the functions of university defenders, the inspection of services and the role of mediation in the new Law were analyzed. In addition, the approaches of universities such as Carlos III and the UAM were discussed.

One of the main conclusions, explains Antonio Julio López Galisteo, vice-rector for Teacher Training and Teaching Innovation, has been that “universities are still addressing how to implement the law and defining their coexistence committees. There are aspects of the norm that must be defined internally and the implementation of the Law is being developed in each of the universities”.

In addition, López Galisteo has highlighted that "there was a debate on the role of mediation in this new Law and the question was raised to what extent the coexistence committee can or cannot mediate if the participation of professional mediators". In this sense, the vice-chancellor has indicated that from his vice-chancellor's office they will assess "include mediation in future training programs for the PDI".

The conference was attended by numerous members of the Madrid universities involved in the application of this Law in their respective centers.

The session was opened by the rector, Javier Ramos, the assistant secretary, Sara Núñez de Prado, and López Galisteo himself.

The vice-rector for Teacher Training wanted to highlight "the work of Sara Núñez de Prado in drawing up the standard at the URJC and in conversations with other Madrid universities".

A regulation that takes its first steps (a draft is already available) and that, when the final text is prepared, will mean a before and after in the management of conflicts of all kinds that can be generated within the Rey Juan Carlos University .
