Yesterday, today and tomorrow, March 28, 29 and 30, the V Conference on Women in Architecture will be held on the Fuenlabrada campus, under the title 'History(s) of Women Architects beyond the canon'. The director of the initiative is Serafina Amoroso, professor of the Project Area of the degree in Fundamentals of Architecture.

The format of the event is hybrid and is broadcast online through the Teams platform. The hours cover the early afternoon hours, from 14:00 p.m. to 18:00 p.m.

As Fermina Garrido, coordinator of the Architecture degree and the conference organizing committee, commented, "the main theme in this fifth edition will be the role of various female architects who write and dedicate themselves to the theory of architecture."

With the collaboration of the Office of the Vice President for University Extension, the event is organized by the MATRICES group. This is a work team within the research group PENT(H)A, who has just started his career at the URJC. PENT(H)A is dedicated to the study of emerging processes and new techniques, between history and architecture. MATRICES, on the other hand, devotes its efforts to analyzing the role of women in this discipline.

“With all the contents of the four previous editions of these conferences on Women and Architecture, we have published a book”, comments Fermina Garrido, its author, together with Elena Escudero López and Raquel Martínez Gutiérrez, also teachers at the URJC.

Specifically, the sessions started yesterday with the presentation of this new book, 'Architecture with Women Architects', and a subsequent panel discussion to delve into some issues.

Today, March 29, the innovation project Escuela de Cuidados, coordinated by Raquel Martínez, is presented. This initiative aims to reflect on the concept of care and how the spatial distribution influences the emotional and affective.

"Tomorrow, finally, we will have a more classic day, with three presentations by experts and a final discussion table," concludes Garrido. The guests are María Novas Ferradás, author of 'Architecture and gender'; Amelia Vilaplana de Miguel, architect and researcher, and Paula V. Álvarez, editor of various books on the subject.

Participation in the activity carries a recognition of 0,3 ECT to attendees. The complete program can be visited from the following link: Women and Architecture
