The Rural Campus Program is an initiative developed by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, in collaboration with the Ministry of Universities and the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE), which allows university students of any official degree to carry out training practices in rural environments, specifically in municipalities with fewer than 5.000 inhabitants.
The initiative is committed to the potential of the territory, the promotion of youth employment and the promotion of local talent, promoting the linking of the population of different areas with rural spaces, generating new forms of roots and bonds, which promote the activity and create opportunities employment in the territory.
The duration of the internships in this new edition will be three months, during which the selected students will receive a grant of 1.000 euros gross per month for accommodation and maintenance. This year, 47 public universities participate in the program.
In the first edition, in which the Rey Juan Carlos University also participated, a total of 399 students from 36 public universities benefited from Campus Rural and for this one it is expected that 1.000 will carry out these practices that will help them discover new environments and expand their knowledge and training resources.
Fernando García Muiña, Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Transfer points out that “this program opens up new possibilities for external internships for our students in environments that may not be too well known, but that can be highly valuable learning contexts, both technical and human. In addition, it allows the firm commitment of the URJC to materialize with the social and economic development of our environment, and especially that which needs greater support, as is the case of the rural environment”.
The application period is open from today until May 31. Interested students must submit their applications through the URJC electronic Registry and must direct it to the External Practices Unit, making express reference to the registration in the 'Rural Campus' Program, specifying the Degree or Master they are studying, the number DNI or NIE, and the list of places in which you are interested in order of preference.
