For this next academic year 2023/2024, the Rey Juan Carlos University has offered a new degree in Digital Communication, promoted by the Faculty of Communication Sciences (FCCOM).

As María del Carmen Gálvez, professor of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising and coordinator of this new degree, tells us, "next year we will start with a group of 60 places in face-to-face mode." The set of subjects that make up the training itinerary can be consulted in the web page of the new degree, "being third and fourth the courses that establish a differential level", adds Gálvez.

This initiative, as its coordinator affirms, “does not come to replace any existing career; The idea is to cover a space that has emerged with digital technologies and that already was in high demand by future students.

As the demands of the labor market and the changes produced by technologies have emerged, figures such as Community Manager, content creator or 3D developers have proliferated in the communication sector. “Until now, a great effort has been made to adapt to these new demands, such as data journalism or everything related to AI”, says Gálvez, “but finally we have opted to create this degree to delve into these issues and open this opportunity to whoever is interested in it”.

In addition, from the URJC it has been observed that this offer was not yet available at the public university. “In private universities there is this degree or, even, in master's degrees from public universities, but there was no degree as such. For this reason, we believed that from public institutions it was a need to cover, according to the demands of the labor market”, adds the coordinator.

Expectations for this new academic offer are very positive. During the URJC Open Doors day "there were many inquiries about the differences with other degrees of communication and we explained exactly that, that it is not intended to replace other degrees, but rather is an evolution, adapted to the needs of the labor market and with the aim of achieving a good job placement, which is our main job”, concludes Gálvez.
