The jury of the 2023 Infographic Olympiad has recognized the work of several URJC students, awarding them the honor prize of the contest. The awarded students, Miguel Esteban, José Miguel Guerrero, Alicia Lagunar and Pablo Frías, belong to the double degree in History and Primary Education and their work represents the Old Cathedral of Salamanca.

The announcement of the contest encouraged students to submit any infographic that they had produced within the framework of any subject of their degree. In this case, the group presented 'The Old Cathedral of Salamanca: A Polyhedral Space', carried out for the subject History of Ancient and Medieval Art, taught by Professor Ángel Pazos López.

According to Miguel Esteban, representative of the winning group, tells us, the contest “was a great experience. We were able to see another environment different from the one we are used to since we had never had the opportunity to participate so first hand in a seminar”. In addition, he acknowledges that "it was very satisfying to observe the work of many colleagues who, awarded or not, presented very ambitious and elaborate projects."

His proposal, continues Esteban, wanted to convey the idea "that medieval cathedrals were a microcosm, a polyhedral space in which several different thematic areas functioned at the same time and even became necessary". To do this, "we designed a hexagonal space to develop 6 areas of study about the cathedral, with the help of the 3D model that is in the center and that is where all the information emerges from."

During the creation process, Esteban recounts that the most complicated part was, without a doubt, "representing all the information we collected in icons". Even, adds the student, "some idea was left in the pipeline to avoid overloading the design with written text boxes."

Lastly, the student wanted to encourage other students to participate in initiatives like these. On this occasion, thanks to the Olympiad, "we were able to publicize the work we had developed for months and explain our proposals and ideas, which adds the experience of public speaking, essential today."

Infographic Olympiad 2023 is sponsored by Microsoft Education, Xppen, S&You and NTT DATA. As a prize, the students received a gift from each sponsor; a Deco Pro S” Graphic Tablet from Xppen, Microsoft backpacks and gadgets, an employability course from the S& You company and a Scape Room experience for NTT DATA selection processes.
