Tomorrow, July 14, the first Zeljko Obradovic University Clinic will begin, which also covers July 15 and 16 in the municipality of Fuenlabreño. The event will take place on the URJC Fuenlabrada campus, and will also include practical sessions in the Fernando Martín Pavilion.
The activity, organized jointly by the Fuenlabrada Basketball Foundation and the Rey Juan Carlos University, will have the special presence of Zeljko Obradovic, a very prominent European basketball coach who maintains a great link with the city of Fuenlabrada.
According to the deputy vice-rector for sports and coordinator of this event, Alexander Gil, "more than 30 years ago, Obradovic's team - partizan of Belgrade - had to go into exile because of the Balkan war and landed here, in Fuenlabrada, to play their matches. Since then, the coach has maintained a very good relationship with the city and visits it almost every year”.
Coinciding with his time in Spain, the coach will be one of the most prominent speakers at the Clinic to be held in the coming days. The event aims to combine theory and practice with presentations by top-level coaches and Sports Science researchers in the field of basketball.
In the words of the deputy vice-chancellor, "this is and has been the first fruitful collaboration between the URJC and the Fuenlabrada Basketball Foundation, where interventions by prominent coaches alternate with the latest advances and trends in basketball research, from a scientific point of view".
Thus, professors from the URJC of Sports Sciences and other experts from the Polytechnic University of Madrid will be in charge of covering the most theoretical-scientific part of the Clinic, which will be taught on the URJC's Fuenlabrada campus. For their part, they will be basketball coaches such as Luis Casimiro or Jota Cuspinera, who will be responsible for teaching the practical part from the Fernando Martín Pavilion.
The event has a recognition of 0.45 ETCS for attendees, including students from the URJC. As Gil has reported, the event has been very well received; "At the moment, we have already exceeded the number of 60 registered and we did not expect it, since it is summer, weekend... and in this aspect we are very happy".
The deputy vice-chancellor also wanted to highlight the work of Fernando Bermejo Batanero and Sergio Jiménez Saiz, who have been responsible for organizing everything so that the event goes ahead.
