The event included various presentations in which some of the most recent projects in relation to people in situations of social exclusion were presented. Along these lines, attendees highlighted the intervention of the general director of firefighters and former general director of emergencies of the Madrid city council who emotionally recalled the joint work of Firefighters, Samur, Civil Protection, police and Samur Social on important dates such as 11M, the pandemic and 'Filomena', among others.

On this day the OEX gave its annual recognition to 'Social Responsibility for the support to eradicate and make social exclusion visible' to Darío Pérez Madera, creator of SAMUR SOCIAL for his work in the treatment of social emergencies of any kind, both individual , family, as collective. His family collected the award posthumously.

The event has been organized by the Observatory for the Analysis and Visibility of Exclusion in collaboration with the Vice-Rectorate of Campus Community, Culture and Sports. Silvia Giménez Rodríguez, professor of Sociology at the URJC and director of the OEX, highlights the importance of the event, highlighting that: “This event aims to make visible the increase in poverty rates in our society, as well as the daily involvement of social services.”

The meeting was held as a prelude to the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, which is celebrated today, October 17. The choice of this day for the fight against poverty was chosen by Father Joseph Wresinski in 1987.

The event “even exceeded a hundred attendees,” as stated by the organizer of the event.
