The conference, organized by LATEP and sponsored by Repsol, addressed key topics in the field of the Circular Economy, one of the laboratory's main lines of research. The polymers investigated at LATEP, specifically the group of polyolefins, constitute 50% of plastic waste, so this topic is of great relevance.
During the day, aspects such as the treatment of waste generated by fishing nets, the circularity of plastics and the management of vehicle plastics, among others, were discussed. Top-level experts participated, such as the general director of Plastics Europe Spain, researchers from LATEP and IMDEA Energy, and representatives of companies and associations such as REPSOL, ECOEMBES, AIMPLAS and ANAIP.
LATEP, which began operating two decades ago, has collaborated with a large number of companies practically all over the world and has carried out more than 130.000 tests. Its global income for the URJC exceeds 8 million euros, which makes it a reference not only at the URJC but also internationally in testing and research on plastic materials.
At the event, the Rector of the URJC highlighted the importance of LATEP and the university-business collaboration model that it represents, with relevant implications for society.
