How to get the most out of Artificial Intelligence

How to get the most out of Artificial Intelligence How to get the most out of Artificial Intelligence

The course 'Artificial Intelligence in University Teaching' will show how new technologies and AI are revolutionizing education and how students and teachers can take advantage of all their advantages.

New technologies have brought many opportunities, but also new challenges for the educational community. In order to better understand these tools, which are here to stay, the Rey Juan Carlos University dedicates one of its summer courses to training in AI and its applications to teaching.

The program will provide participants with theoretical and practical knowledge for the responsible use of AI, while addressing its ethical and legal implications. Among the advantages offered by these emerging technologies are data analysis, task automation and personalization of learning. “Finally we will be able to face the necessary change in the evaluation processes, in which the memorization of content or the preparation of assignments will no longer take precedence,” says Antonio López Galisteo, director of the course and professor at the URJC, who adds that “The ChatGPT response text can never be the final point, but rather the point of origin on which to build and develop better jobs, better skills. We must teach teachers and students to look with critical reasoning at what AI gives us back.”

Algorithmic discrimination and biases

However, not all benefits. Among the issues that most concern experts are the loss of privacy, misinformation or algorithmic biases, which reinforce stereotypes and have a negative impact on the most vulnerable population. Another important factor to take into account is unequal access to these technologies, which can increase the educational gap. “Both teachers and students who attend the presentations will receive tools to identify and confront all these problems,” says López Galisteo.

The course will be taught on June 25 on the Móstoles campus, it is free and is recognized with ECTS credits.
