The Rey Juan Carlos University has managed to place itself among the 20 best universities in the world in SDG 12 'Responsible Production and Consumption', specifically in position 18, in the latest edition of THE Impact Ranking. This ranking recognizes the performance of universities in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.

In global terms, the Rey Juan Carlos University improves its positions and goes from being among the best 600 universities in the world to being among the 400 with the best results in compliance with the SDGs.

In addition, the Rey Juan Carlos University is positioned among the 200 best in the world in SDG 6, 'Clean Water and Sanitation'. It is also placed in that prominent position in SDG 13 'Climate Action' and in SDG 15 'Life on Terrestrial Ecosystems'. On the other hand, the URJC is among the 300 best in the world in SDG 14 'Life Underwater'.

The only Madrid native present in all the SDGs

The Rey Juan Carlos University is the only Madrid university that appears in all the SDGs of the 'THE Impact Ranking' 2024. Among the SDGs in which all Madrid universities participate, in SDG 17 'Partnerships to achieve the objectives', the URJC is in second regional position and stands out among the 300 best in the world.

According to Diana Benito, Deputy Vice-Rector for Strategy, “this achievement is a testimony of our constant commitment to sustainability and university social responsibility. This commitment does not leave anyone behind, nor any SDG, we are the only Madrid university that scores in all the SDGs of the 'THE Impact Ranking' 2024."

The deputy vice-rector added that, “our vision of sustainability at the Rey Juan Carlos University is based on the 3Ps (Profit, People and Planet). We are committed to creating an inclusive and equitable environment where all of our students and staff can thrive, extending this improvement of lives to people beyond our university community. But we are also committed to protecting our planet and are dedicated to researching and implementing sustainable practices to minimize our impact on the environment. “We will not stop fostering prosperity in our community and the world at large through our education and research and community service initiatives.”

'THE Impact Ranking' is the only one that evaluates universities in relation to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It uses calibrated indicators to provide a complete and balanced comparison in four areas: research, administration, outreach and teaching.
