The URJC once again played a great role in the Futsal tournament of the European University Championships, held during this month of July in Hungary.

The girls of Alfonso Catalina and Malika Lozano played a match for third and fourth place in which the Spanish team took the lead with a goal from Claudia Bollero. At the beginning of the second half, the Finnish team equalized. The tie remained until the final whistle and it was only after 18 penalties were taken that the URJC team took the victory.

The university team player, 'Guti', scored the ninth penalty taken by the Spanish team and Silvia García stopped the next shot by the University of Tampere, winning the bronze medal for the URJC in the European University Futsal Championship Female.

The Rey Juan Carlos University was champion of the last two editions of the tournament in the University Championships and has now won bronze, which is a record that is difficult to match in three consecutive years.

For Alexander Gil, academic director of Sports at the URJC, who has been in constant contact with the team during the tournament, “the balance is very positive, we are very happy. A creditable third place has been achieved by maintaining the performance of the two previous editions. We have suffered two injuries during the tournament, which have affected different players, but all of them have drawn strength from where there was none to win the medal. We want to congratulate the girls, especially, for adding in difficult moments, since it has been a very tough championship in which they began by losing.”

According to Gil, the team's technical staff has told him that “the level of some universities in the tournament has significantly increased.” In this sense, the academic director of Sports has pointed out that "if we want to maintain the level shown in recent years, we must increase competitiveness with a training period prior to the tournament or by adding student players who have not been able to be part of the team." due to commitments with national teams”

Without a doubt, this bronze medal is a new milestone for URJC sports. No Madrid university has been able to achieve 3 consecutive medals (gold, gold and bronze) in the European University Championships.
