Being a student mentor at the URJC is in fashion. For the first time since the initiative was launched, the number of applications has exceeded the number of places offered, so a selection process has been necessary.
The selected students met on Monday at the IV Meeting of Student Mentors, where they were able to get to know each other and whose objective was to prepare them to help in the welcome days that are being held these days in the different schools and faculties of the Rey Juan Carlos University.
To this end, the day included several round tables (one with degree coordinators and another with students from previous years) and a networking session. As Carmen de la Calle, academic director of Institutional Mentoring, points out, “The student round table was very interesting for the new mentors, because they told them about their experiences” advising students who are beginning their journey at university.
The day also served to recognize the work of the mentors, in this case, excellent mentors from last year: Irene Pérez Santiago - Degree in Software Engineering, Andrea Jiménez Hidalgo - Double Degree in Economics-Law, Maria Cecilia Fuenzalida Naranjo - Degree in Science, Management and Services Engineering and Silvia de Francisco Gil - Degree in Computer Engineering.

Carmen de la Calle is “very satisfied” with the outcome of the meeting and would like to thank Mercedes del Hoyo, Vice-Rector for Campus Community, Culture and Sport, and Almudena López, Vice-Rector for Students, who were in charge of opening the event.
Looking to the future, the person in charge of Mentoring at the URJC would like the origin of the student mentors to be more diverse in terms of degrees. “We have a lot of people from Medicine, but much less from the EIF, for example,” she said.
In addition to the Welcome Days, the next events for student mentors will be the mentoring days, which will take place in October, and a meeting that will take place after the exam period.
