A total of 27 URJC researchers, among the most cited in the world

A study carried out by the academic publisher Elsevier based on data provided by the scientific database Scopus (Stanford University) places 27 researchers from the Rey Juan Carlos University among the most cited in the world. This ranking is considered an indicator of research excellence., since it takes into account the impact of scientific publications, that is, the number of times the research has been cited, but also the quality of the works that use them as a reference.

The 27 distinguished researchers in this ranking, both taking into account the citations throughout their research career and the citations received during 2023 are (in alphabetical order): José Aguado (Chemical Engineering), Roberto Cano de la Cuerda (Physiotherapy), Daniel Collado Mateo (Physical and Sports Education), Juan del Coso (Physical and Sports Education), Javier Dufour (Chemical Engineering), Adrián Escudero (Ecology), Josué Fernández Carnero (Physiotherapy), César Fernández De Las Peñas (Physiotherapy), Miguel Ángel Fernández Sanjuan (Applied Physics), Juan Antonio García Velasco (Obstetrics and Gynecology), Santiago Gómez Ruíz (Inorganic Chemistry) Silvia González Prolongo (Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering), Pedro Jiménez Reyes (Physical and Sports Education), Lidiane Lima Florencio (Physiotherapy), Andrés Losada-Baltar (Psychology), Luca Martino (Signal Theory and Telecommunications), Juan Antonio Melero (Chemical Engineering), Rubén Milla (Ecology), Sascha Ossowski (Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence), Domingo Palacios-Ceña (Physiotherapy), Cecilia Peñacoba Puente (Psychology), Joaquín Rams (Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering), Gregorio Robles (Telematic Engineering), José Ramón Saura Lacárcel (Marketing and Market Research), Eloy Sanz Pérez (Chemical Engineering), Davide Settembre Blundo (Sustainability and Business Innovation) and Alejandro Ureña (Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering). The areas that stand out the most in this ranking by number of researchers are Physiotherapy and Chemical Engineering.

The ranking now published by Elsevier was created in 2019 by John P. A. Ioannidis, Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health and hyperprolific academic at Stanford University (USA). This latest update, published in August 2024, has assessed the impact of scientific publications using the bibliometric indicator C-index. In addition to the number of citations received, this indicator takes into account the quality of said citations. Finally, the 100.000 authors with the highest C-index and all the authors in the 2% percentile range with the best result in this indicator for each scientific area have been selected. The results have been published in two independent lists, one that assesses the entire research career and another that assesses only the year 2023.
