After more than five years of functioning as an informal group coordinated by the University of Barcelona, and given the progressive incorporation of new universities into the group, which has grown from 11 universities in 2019 to 55 universities in 52 alliances in 2024, the group has provided itself with governance and operating rules that allow it to achieve the group's objective more effectively. The Rey Juan Carlos University is a member of the group as part of the EULiST Alliance.
Before the end of the year, it is hoped that the assembly will be formally established, the operating rules approved and the members of the first Executive Committee that will coordinate the group in this new phase will be elected.
The aim of the group is to create an environment of cooperation that allows for the sharing of knowledge, experiences and good practices between universities and other Spanish higher education institutions that participate in European university alliances, but also with the rest of the higher education institutions with whom it is hoped to be able to work together to address the challenges facing the Spanish university system in the European context.
The Vice-Rector for International Relations highlights the importance of the creation of this group “to promote the collaboration of Spanish universities that form part of these university alliances, which will allow us to be interlocutors with European institutions.”
A combination of forces that will serve to have a greater voice in Europe.
