The conference was a great success in attendance, with more than 170 participants taking part in the different activities offered throughout the day. The event was opened by the Director of ESCET, Alejandro Ureña, and the Vice-Rector for Quality and Strategy, Andres Martínez.
The session began with a presentation by the Deputy Director of Environmental Policies of the Government Cabinet, Eloy Sanz, on “Sustainability in education and decision-making”. Subsequently, their directors presented two new research institutes that bring together a very significant number of ESCET researchers: the Institute for Research in Technologies for Sustainability (ITPS) and the Institute for Research in Global Change (IICG).
In the second part of the morning, fifteen workshops related to sustainability were proposed for undergraduate and master's students, developed mainly in the teaching and research laboratories of the School; and a round table on "SDGs and STEM degrees: Building a Sustainable Future", which generated an interesting debate on how to train in sustainability.
In the afternoon, students representing the different ESCET degrees competed in the final phase of the 20st Degree Competition for Sustainability, which took place in Pechakucha format (20 slides x 3 seconds). In these presentations, the different teams of 14 students presented problems related to SDGs and proposed solutions based on the tools studied in their different degrees. XNUMX teams competed in this final phase and after a tight popular and jury vote, the Degree in Biology won this first edition. The trophy for the winners of each edition will be displayed at the ESCET premises.
