The second edition of the conference “What next?: From university to the professional world” aims to shed light on the professional future of students from the Faculty of Communication Sciences (FCCOM). The event will be held on October 28 and 29 in the morning in the Auditorium of the Library of the Madrid campus (Vicálvaro).

The days, which are being held for the second consecutive year, aim to motivate and guide FFCOM students towards their professional future in the world of film and television.

The idea, says Laura Fernández, professor of the Department of Audiovisual Communication and co-organizer of the conference with Juan Martín Quevedo (Communication Sciences and Sociology) came "after seeing at the Goya ceremony classmates from the film school who, after 20 years of career, had been nominated, such as Andrés Gil for the editing of the film 'Cinco Lobitos'.

This is precisely the focus of the conference, to find out what happens between the ages of 20 and 40 in the Audiovisual Communication profession. “As the courses progress, we notice that students are a little disheartened by the lack of contacts, doubts about doing a master's degree and where to do it, etc.”, says the URJC professor.

To this end, the organisers have invited a group of top-level professionals, including those nominated and awarded with the Goyas, as well as those nominated for the Oscars. Among the participants is Andrés Gil, editor of 'La Sociedad de la Nieve' (Winner of the Goya for best editing in 2024 and nominated for an Oscar) and 'Cinco Lobitos' (Nominated for best editing at the Goyas in 2023). There will also be space for specialists in Animation, Sound and Television.

“We have invited professionals to tell us about their professional careers, what they studied, where their vocation came from and what led to the other,” says Fernández.

The structure of the interventions will be that of an informal interview, moderated by a professor, after which students will be able to ask questions to the speakers.

“What is different this year compared to last year is that this time we are bringing students professional profiles that are less accessible than those they are used to seeing in the media,” explains the professor.

The sessions were a huge success with the public in their first edition and it is hoped that this will continue to be the case this year. “The students loved them, all those who participated last year want to come back,” says the FCCOM teacher.

These events are organised thanks to the help of the Vice-Rectorate for Campus Community, Culture and Sport and are coordinated by the group of professors from the FCCOM, Espacio Negativo.
