This initiative is a process that allows students to actively get involved in decision-making regarding the allocation of resources at the university.

Following an initial consultation phase involving more than 3.000 students, an exhaustive analysis of all the proposals collected has been carried out. This process has allowed the URJC to obtain an initial approximation for the allocation of these resources, taking into account their viability.

This is not the first time that the Rey Juan Carlos University has carried out this initiative, according to Almudena López, Vice-Chancellor for Students. “In previous years, after a consultation process involving the Student Council and student representatives, the installation of tables and picnic areas outside the campuses was financed, along with ping-pong tables and water fountains in the classrooms.”

On this occasion, the students have put forward proposals aimed at improving the leisure and study spaces both inside and outside the campuses. They also want to install new water fountains, lockers, bicycle parking and microwaves.

Now, it is time for students to choose priorities from among these and other selected proposals after analyzing the results of the survey, an essential process to ensure that resources are effectively allocated to the areas most important to students.

According to Almudena López, “Participatory student budgets are one of the proposals in the programme of the rector, Javier Ramos. They allow us to consolidate the progress we are making in involving students in participatory governance by allowing them to express their needs and priorities.”

Anyone who wishes to participate only has to complete this poll, to actively contribute to the decision-making process on how these budgets will ultimately be invested for the benefit of all students. The survey will be open until November 6.
