Last October, the Healthy University Program carried out various activities at the URJC on the occasion of Healthy Universities Day, which was celebrated on October 7. Among these, the participation in the “10.000 Donations Challenge” stands out, where 439 donations were obtained from the 524 people who signed up for the challenge, increasing the number achieved the previous year.
On Mental Health Day, a series of events were held to raise awareness of the problem of self-harm in young people. Awareness stands from the Spanish Association Against Cancer were also set up on all university campuses. In addition, the Asperger Association of Madrid had a stand on the Alcorcón campus.
However, these were not the only activities that were carried out: workshops on “make your weekly menu in one day”, “learn about the impact of alcohol consumption during pregnancy”, and rapid STI tests were carried out in a Mobile Unit of the Red Cross.
Ainhoa Romero Hernández, one of the people in charge of this program, highlights its importance in “providing socio-emotional skills for the university community and collaborating with external entities to advance its mental health.” Universidad Saludable is part of the CRUE Healthy Universities Working Group and is responsible for carrying out monthly activities for students and staff at URJC.
Among the activities available in November we find a seminar on healthy habits, as well as workshops on the importance of Virtual Reality for people with ASD and to learn about and prevent strokes. In addition, the teaching, research, administration and service staff have an emotional regulation seminar and a relaxation space. All the information on these activities is available at the website.
