On the morning of Monday, February 17, after holding a meeting attended by almost all of its members, the Monitoring and Evaluation Commission of the Transformation and Empowerment Plan through Artificial Intelligence (PowerU).
The delegation has a total of sixteen members, thirteen from the URJC and three from external companies, including, in addition to the rector of the URJC, Javier Ramos; the vice-rector for Transformation and Digital Education and Artificial Intelligence, César Cáceres, and the academic director of AI, Luisa Eugenia Reyes.
The event began with a speech by Javier Ramos, who took the opportunity to thank everyone present for their efforts and involvement, while defining AI as “the most powerful tool that humans have ever had in their hands.”
Next, it was César Cáceres' turn, who outlined the main lines of a project that, as he indicated, began to take shape in November 2023. In short, the Plan has four major areas, among which the governance area stands out, which has two committees: on the one hand, the Monitoring and Evaluation committee and on the other, the Ethics and Governance committee. For the Vice-Rector for Transformation and Digital Education and Artificial Intelligence, we are facing "a very ambitious plan, four years, made for people."
Luisa Eugenia Reyes also spoke, presenting the use cases that are already implemented and those that are in development. In her speech, the academic director of AI highlighted the advances in financial management and contracting, since “this is the part of university services that most demands automation.”
At the end of the meeting, Javier Ramos spoke again, explaining how the Commission works and the plan to hold three annual meetings. Although this is not a very large number of meetings, the rector wanted to highlight the importance of these meetings, as they will be “absolutely critical meetings, of great value.” He also announced the creation of a Permanent Commission, made up of five positions, which will include, in addition to the rector and the aforementioned César Cáceres and Luisa Eugenia Reyes, the academic director of IT, Micael Gallego, and the director of IT of the URJC, Juan Manuel Dévora.
Finally, the event ended with a speech by the rector, who assured that "there is no scenario in which this project will not go ahead."
