Last Friday, February 14, Spanish university theatre had its day of encounter at the ninth edition of the National University Theatre Awards, held in the Manuel de Falla Hall of the Longoria Palace.
At this event, a jury composed of academics from the Academy of Performing Arts of Spain, decided on 16 categories in a competition in which fifteen universities from all over Spain participated.
The group 'Arrojoscénico' presented the play 'Todo sobre Oedipo', based on 'Oedipus Rex' by Sophocles. With this proposal they won the award for best original text for their director, Víctor Mendoza (known by the nickname Antonius Bloc).
Martina Roel and Cristian Girón also received the awards for best actress and best supporting actor for their roles in the play. They also had a nomination for best characterization and costumes.
“It was a surprise and we are delighted because we had been preparing the play for two years,” explains Víctor Mendoza, coordinator of the Aula de Teatro. “It is very good news to have won three awards against other groups from so many universities,” says the coordinator regarding the importance of these awards for the university.
