Nearly 70% of trafficking victims are women and girls

On the occasion of International Women's Day, the Observatory for the Analysis and Visibility of Social Exclusion (OEX) of the Rey Juan Carlos University together with RATT International (Stop Human Trafficking and Trafficking Network), announce that on June 11, 12 and 13, 2025, the First World Summit for the Exchange of Good Practices in the Care of Victims of Trafficking will take place. The activity will focus on a Human Rights perspective.

The congress brings together experts, organizations and world leaders from all continents with the aim of sharing good practices in the promotion and protection of victims' rights. In the words of the president of RATT International, Fernando Mao, the main intention of the congress is "to share experiences and good practices to learn from the experiences of other countries and organizations in the promotion and restitution of rights, as well as to establish alliances and collaborations to strengthen cooperation between organizations and countries in the promotion and protection of human rights." Mao adds that another objective of the event is "to identify challenges and opportunities to analyze the intervention criteria in the prosecution of the crime of criminal networks, developing valid intervention strategies."

Regarding the speakers, Silvia Giménez Rodríguez, the event organizer and director of OEX, said that this world summit “has brought together 54 speakers from 18 countries and 5 continents so far, addressing their intervention from an interdisciplinary perspective, with the perspective of the protagonists, the survivors, playing a central role in all the panels.” Giménez also had words of gratitude for the collaborators, “all of this has been possible thanks to the institutional support of the URJC and the generosity of the speakers who participated selflessly.”

The UNDOC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime) is the main entity of the ONU which is responsible for addressing the crime of human trafficking, according to its latest report, 2/3 of the victims of trafficking are women and girls. In addition, for the European Commission, is the second largest illicit economy, with around 25 million victims a year. This activity generates USD 236.000 billion annually, with Europe and Central Asia being the most affected regions.

Registration is free, it will be managed through this link and the deadline for submitting different research projects on good practices related to the world of human trafficking, subject to peer review by an SPI20 publishing house, will be open until March 1.
