Last Wednesday, March 5, the Vice-Rector of Campus Community, Culture and Sports of the Rey Juan Carlos University, Mercedes del Hoyo, and the Dean of the Illustrious Bar Association of Madrid (ICAM), Eugenio Ribón, signed a collaboration agreement between both institutions to strengthen the activities developed within the framework of the Legal Clinic of the URJC.

The purpose of the agreement is to promote collaboration between the ICAM-CORTINA Foundation and the URJC Legal Clinic, connecting law students with volunteer lawyers to work together on projects with social impact, focused on the protection and support of vulnerable groups. These activities will focus on legal awareness and literacy.

The URJC's role is to facilitate cases and projects in which students and ICAM Foundation lawyers can collaborate, in addition to supervising activities through its faculty. Students will also have the opportunity to teach legal workshops to beneficiaries of social responsibility activities promoted by ICAM.

For its part, the ICAM-CORTINA Foundation will guarantee the participation of volunteer lawyers, who will perform their duties with complete professional independence and in accordance with the ethical standards of the legal profession. "For the URJC, the ICAM is a key player; it is part of the Advisory Council of the Social Clinics, and thanks to this collaboration, the legal clinic contributes to fostering its students' vocation to be drivers of social change, in collaboration with professional associations," says Marta Albert, director of the University's Legal Clinic.

Among the various initiatives that will be implemented as a result of the agreement, the most notable are the development of a guide on eviction processes, whose presentation is planned for April, and the updating of the Immigration Guide in accordance with the new regulations.

Regarding the agreement, the director notes that thanks to this arrangement, "our students at the legal clinic will improve their training in two ways: first, through specific training, and second, through the development of legal outreach projects and support for vulnerable individuals with the support and mentorship of volunteer lawyers from the association. With this alliance, the URJC and the ICAM-CORTINA Foundation consolidate their commitment to strengthening the practical training of future lawyers."
