Dr. Gil Rodríguez Caravaca, head of Preventive Medicine at the Alcorcón Foundation Hospital, a public hospital in the Community of Madrid, has been appointed professor of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the Rey Juan Carlos University. This is the first professor of Preventive Medicine at a public hospital in the Community of Madrid affiliated with a public university. Dr. Rodríguez Caravaca is a visiting professor at the University of Liverpool and the University of Helsinki. Since 2022, he has been a full professor at the Rey Juan Carlos University.
For his selection and appointment, Dr. Rodríguez Caravaca defended and presented his academic, professional, teaching, and research career, as well as a teaching project and an original research project, before a committee composed of professors from both the Rey Juan Carlos University and other Spanish public universities, in an event open to the public, in the University's Degree Hall.
The doctor began his extensive presentation of his career and achievements with a heartfelt thank you to his parents, teachers, and colleagues with whom he has had the opportunity to work and collaborate throughout his personal, professional, and teaching career. Among his many achievements, Dr. Rodríguez Caravaca holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1986 and a doctorate in 2000. He began his teaching career in 1998, while also joining the Preventive Medicine and Public Health Department at the Alcorcón Foundation Hospital as a specialist physician. In 2004, he was appointed Head of the Preventive Medicine and Public Health Department.
In October 2019, he received the World Health Organization (WHO) award on behalf of his hospital for best center in the world for hand hygiene implementation strategy. He is a visiting professor at the University of Liverpool and the University of Helsinki. Since 2022, he has been a full professor at the Rey Juan Carlos University. Prior to his selection and appointment, he was accredited as a professor by the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA), a process with highly demanding requirements that evaluate teaching and research experience, professional clinical practice, and knowledge transfer.
The appointment of Dr. Gil Rodríguez Caravaca strengthens the influence of the Alcorcón Foundation University Hospital in the Health Sciences training program at Rey Juan Carlos University, to which it provides the largest number of professors and associate professors among the university's teaching hospitals.
