The rector, Javier Ramos, was in charge of closing the Reading Aloud of the book "The Wealth of Nations" by Adam Smith, considered by many to be the father of modern economics.
Before the rector, the candidates to succeed him, Fernando García Muiña and Abraham Duarte, passed through the lobby of the Library on the Madrid campus.
Large number of economists
Economists also participated in the reading, including Pedro Schwartz, who initiated it, Fernando Becker, Daniel Lacalle, Javier Fernández Lasquetty, Francisco Cabrillo, Amelia Pérez Zabaleta, Domingo Pérez Lobato, Juan Bravo, Isabel Acosta, Teresa Freire, Juan Manuel López Zafra, and Gregorio Izquierdo.
In addition, business journalists from various media outlets also visited the Madrid campus to participate in this event, which the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies decided to commemorate World Book Day. As Álvaro Hernández Tamurejo, the Faculty's communications coordinator, explains, "we aimed to bring our discipline closer to the world of reading and make everyone a part of it."
To read!
On another note, and also coinciding with Book Day, the URJC Library has launched a new reading club, which will be, as stated by the service, "a space open to all students, professors, researchers, and technical management and administration staff of our university."
Each month, a work will be selected for reading, and after the reading, sessions will be held to reflect on the work's main themes and characters, "in enjoyable and dynamic meetings," they say.
To participate it is necessary to fill out a form with your name and corporate email address and follow the instructions that will be sent from the library for admission and participation. For more information, you can send an email to
