The "Climate Warriors" project, which addresses sustainability and the circular economy from a comprehensive perspective to impact education and the local community, is the entry of the Rey Juan Carlos University in this year's Internet Awards. Anyone who wishes to vote for this entry is welcome. here.
According to Manuel Gertrudix, professor of Audiovisual Communication, and María del Carmen Gálvez de la Cuesta, professor of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising, both researchers at Ciberimaginario, 'Climate Warriors' was created as an umbrella under which to develop and continue projects of this type carried out within the group. "'Climate Warriors' aims to offer a calm reflection on sustainability issues from the perspective of education and communication." Specifically, the objective is for students at the URJC, and specifically at the FCCOM, to be able to develop innovative materials on sustainability that can later be used by pre-university teachers and their own students to adapt these materials to their immediate reality.
'Climate Warriors,' as María del Carmen Gálvez explains, "draws on both Ciberimaginario projects and work developed within the framework of the EduComciencia Educational Innovation Project (PIE), building a platform that allows these ideas to survive." All the materials developed under the 'Climate Warriors' umbrella are open resources. "We chose this approach to raise students' awareness about open culture," explains Manuel Gertrudix.
On the platform, you can find all kinds of materials, from educational videos to interactive comics and video games, among other formats.
In addition, within this project, a training course has been developed for pre-university teachers to develop projects so their students can create their own materials adaptable to their current situation.
This is the third time Ciberimaginario has entered the Internet Awards, and the nomination of 'Climate Warriors' could mean its third award, even more so, considering that it is participating in a category very closely related to the project: 'Digital Transformation, Personal Brand, Digital Citizenship, and Research and Entrepreneurship'.
As Carmen Gálvez points out, although they would like to win this award, "for the University, being a finalist is already significant; we also have a competitive and interesting proposal." Manuel Gertrudix also points out that the candidacy presents an "outreach project so that citizens understand what is being done at universities and learn about it in an innovative way. Written in understandable language with concrete examples."
Another example of the URJC's excellence, where educational innovation serves to raise awareness about sustainability and the circular economy.
