Abraham Duarte will be the new rector of the Rey Juan Carlos University for the next six years, after garnering 50,76% of the vote and defeating Fernando García Muiña in the second round of elections, who garnered 45,27% of the votes (the blank vote represents 3,96%).
Abraham Duarte, the most voted for by all sectors
According to official results, Abraham Duarte was the candidate with the most votes across all electoral sectors, garnering 26% of the votes in Sector A (PDI with permanent ties to the URJC), compared to 80% for Fernando García Muiña; in Sector B (other PDI), Abraham Duarte garnered 26,20%, while Fernando García Muiña reached 7%. In Sector C (Students), Abraham Duarte obtained 70% of the votes and Fernando García Muiña 7%. And in Sector D (PTGAS), Duarte obtained 30%, compared to 11% for García Muiña.
Unequal participation
The largest number of voters in this second round were Sector D, with a turnout rate of 90%. This was followed by Sector A, with 55%; Sector B, with 89%; and finally, Sector C, with 64%.
The second round, originally scheduled for last Tuesday, April 29, was ultimately postponed until May 6 due to the blackout that hit the Iberian Peninsula on April 28.
The second round of elections was held after the first round, held on April 2, in which none of the candidates received 50% of the vote. On that occasion, the top-scoring candidate was Fernando García Muiña, with 49% of the vote, while Abraham Duarte received 11% of the votes cast.
