The URJC gathers its graduates in its first 'Alumni' meeting

  • Mentions were also awarded at the event to the Outstanding 'Alumni' 2016

The Rey Juan Carlos University has brought together an important part of its graduates in the first 'Alumni' meeting held by this University on the occasion of its XNUMXth Anniversary, which has served, in turn, to kick off the activities of its headquarters Arguelles Ferraz.

The event was chaired by the rector, Fernando Suárez Bilbao, who highlighted the University's work in putting graduates in contact with companies at a time when, he pointed out, "youth unemployment is a drama, and university unemployment is intolerable.”

The rector has highlighted that the training model that the University is committed to "helps students in their working life in a world that involves difficulties beyond the classroom" and has encouraged graduates to use their "talent, strength and craft ” and reminded them that the Rey Juan Carlos University “will accompany them along the way”.

For her part, the Vice-Rector for Teaching, Academic Organization and Qualifications, Mª Luz Martín Peña, highlighted from the Graduates Office that, through the URJC Alumni Program under the coordination of Mª Pilar Serrano, Mariano Sánchez and Mª Cristina Martínez as responsible of the Employment Exchange and of the labor orientation of the Alumni, has worked to offer the graduates support and accompaniment during their insertion stage in the world of work

The program currently has a large number of registered graduates who, through the Alumni Card, can enjoy the services of their university community (library, clinic, sports facilities, discounts on registration for official master's degrees, etc.), in addition to have access to the URJC Employment Exchange, where comprehensive advice and guidance is provided to graduates in terms of job search.

The act has also served to deliver the Mentions to Outstanding Alumni 2016, awards that serve to recognize the professional excellence of URJC graduates.

In addition, the meeting was the scene of the presentation of the book 'University and employment: Instruction Manual' coordinated by the journalist Fernando Jauregui and Lourdes Carmona. That includes a collection of articles and reflections on the relationship between the University and the business world. In addition, it also provides the conclusions of a survey carried out by the company GAD3 to 9.000 students on entrepreneurial tendencies.

Both Jáuregui and Narciso Michavila, president of GAD3, recognized the work of the Rey Juan Carlos University in trying to adapt to the new realities of the labor market and in promoting the Alumni culture, "scarce at the moment in Spain", according to Michavila and that "represents a recognition of excellence and is good for society".
