Criteria and procedure for admission to the degree

The general requirements for access to University Master's Degrees are, according to article 18 of Royal Decree 822/2021, of September 28, which establishes the organization of university education and the procedure for ensuring its quality, the following:

1. Possession of an official Spanish Graduate or Graduate university degree or equivalent is a condition for accessing a Master's Degree, or, where appropriate, having another University Master's degree, or titles of the same level as the Spanish Bachelor's or Master's degree issued by universities and higher education institutions in an EHEA country that in that country allow access to Master's degrees.
2. In the same way, people in possession of titles from educational systems that are not part of the EHEA, which are equivalent to a Bachelor's degree, will be able to access a Master's Degree in the Spanish university system, without the need for homologation of the title, but verification by of the university of the level of training that they imply, as long as in the country where said title was issued it allows access to university postgraduate level studies. In no case will access through this route imply the homologation of the previous degree held by the person concerned or its recognition for other purposes than that of carrying out the Master's degree.
3. Universities will guarantee transparent and accessible information on admission procedures, and must have student orientation systems. Likewise, they will ensure that said information and admission procedures take into account students with disabilities or with specific needs, and will have appropriate support and advice services.
4. Universities may exceptionally establish, based on specific regulations approved by their governing bodies, conditional enrolment procedures for access to a Master's Degree. This will consist of allowing a Bachelor's student who has not yet completed the TFG and a maximum of 9 ECTS credits to access and enrol in a Master's Degree, although in no case will they be able to obtain the Master's degree if they have not previously obtained the Bachelor's degree. Universities will guarantee priority in enrolment for students who have an official university degree of Graduate. In this procedure, credits pending recognition or transfer in the Bachelor's degree, or the requirement to pass a certain level of knowledge of a foreign language to obtain the degree, may be taken into account.
5. Universities or centers will regulate admission to Master's Degree courses, establishing specific requirements and, if necessary, training complements, whose credit load may not exceed the equivalent of 20 percent of the credit load of the degree. The training complement credits will have the same consideration as the rest of the credits in the University Master's degree curriculum.
6. Universities will reserve at least 5 percent of the places offered in official university Master's degrees for students who have a recognized degree of disability equal to or greater than 33 percent, as well as for students with permanent educational support needs. associated with personal circumstances of disability, who in their previous studies have required resources and support for their full educational inclusion.

ADMISSION

The Rey Juan Carlos University does not have specific admission regulations, and is therefore governed by the provisions of article 18 of Royal Decree 822/2021, of September 28. Each degree has its own general admission criteria and special admission tests.

GENERAL ACCESS CRITERIA:

The recommended entry profile would be to have training in translation and interpretation, with prior knowledge of a basic legal nature and a language level B C1 for better use. Even so, a graduate in related qualifications could enroll or be interested in this training.

Direct access

Students from the field of knowledge of “Philology, Classical Studies, Translation and Linguistics”, as established by the classification included in RD 822, have direct access to the master's degree.

Non-specific access

Students who come from other degrees or official qualifications must take additional training courses, even if their curriculum includes subjects in linguistics, philology, any type of training in translation or interpretation, administrative or judicial legal studies and any other training in the field of translation, interpretation, linguistics, philology and law.

Training supplements

*Students who do not come from qualifications in the direct access field must take two complementary training subjects (12 ECTS)

-Theory and practice of translation: Introduction to the translation of legal, judicial and economic texts (6 ECTS)

-Court interpretation techniques (6 ECTS).

CONDITIONS OR SPECIAL ACCESS TESTS:

No special access test is established

In relation to language

The student must provide an official language level certificate. Acceptable certificates will be those recognised by the CRUE. In the case of English language B, a C1 level is required, while for Chinese or Arabic language B, a B2 level is required.

Foreign students who do not come from countries whose official language is Spanish must provide an official certificate of level B2 of Spanish. The language level is established in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

If there are more candidates than available places, the weighting assigned to the evaluation of candidates will be as follows (out of 10 points):

• Average grade of the academic record. Up to 6 points.
• Professional experience in companies or institutions as a translator and/or interpreter. Seniority will be considered as a point. Up to 2 points.
• Stays abroad related to translation and interpretation. The length of stay will be awarded points. Up to 2 points.

The evaluation committee It will be made up of three professors: one from each specialty appointed by the Director of the Master's degree. This committee will be communicated to the authorities of the Faculty and the Rey Juan Carlos University prior to the date of the admission process.

The list of admitted students with grades will be published through the specific URJC channels. When the number of accepted applications exceeds the number of places offered, a waiting list will be established. If there are students among those admitted who do not register, students on the waiting list may be definitively admitted; this also applies in cases where there are vacant places. 

Offer of places: 40 places. If the minimum number of students envisaged is not reached in a course, the University may choose not to open the teaching group.

External Internships

The External Practices subject is a curricular subject whose main objective is to promote a comprehensive training of the student through the practical application of the knowledge acquired during the Master's degree, which facilitates direct contact with the professional activity and the opportunity to join the professional world with a minimum of experience. All practices are designed so that the students who participate in them acquire professional experience in real situations and conditions, applying the knowledge, skills and attitudes that are acquired in the training processes throughout the degree. The internships represent a decisive opportunity for the personal development and professional future of the students.

Internships are activities carried out by the student in companies, institutions and organizations; that is, in centers outside the university premises, which aim to enrich and complement their university education, while providing them with a deeper knowledge about the skills they will need in the future.

The External Practices subject will consist of two phases.

First. Completion of the internship period that offers professional experience related to any of the profiles that are expressed in the Verification Report of the degree.

Mobility programs

University Master's degrees, due to their duration and characteristics, in general do not specifically contemplate the mobility of their students. However, the Rey Juan Carlos University has different mobility programs for both students and University workers (PDI and PAS) and has procedures for collecting and analyzing information on these mobility programs. The management of all the mobility programs of the University is centralized in the Office of the Vice President for International Relations and any student of the University can participate in them.
