Presentation

Politics is a central topic of interest to citizens who demand professional, useful and truthful information on a daily basis. Its importance makes political issues occupy prominent spaces in the different media. Press, radio, television and internet cover events of social, political and public interest, occupying large news spaces. A third of the press contents deal with these issues; Radio and television news programs open with news, speeches and statements of a political nature, and the Internet has become a platform for political parties, organizations and social movements to express themselves.

Politics also occupies a privileged place in the social networks used as a channel of communication between leaders and citizens. Political scenarios change and information professionals must keep up with times characterized by the dizzying pace of events. All of this makes this area of ​​journalistic specialization essential for optimal coverage and treatment of news content.

The growing complexity of today's politics, together with the increase in the political culture of the Spanish, requires future information professionals to be prepared to properly carry out their duties as mediators between public opinion and political powers. Adequate information facilitates an optimal decision in the election processes of those responsible for Power.

Objectives

El Specialist in Political Journalism Its fundamental objective is to contribute to the training of future informants and political analysts. It seeks to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to understand and analyze political reality, power-media relations, political leadership, and the distribution of powers from the perspective of communication and journalism.

The title of Specialist that is presented seeks to address the contents and tools necessary to successfully cover the performance of journalistic and communicative tasks specialized in politics. Training political analysts is also a priority objective of this course and not only preparing political informants and communicators

Recipients

Journalism professionals who want to specialize in politics. Consulting staff, analysis cabinets who want to expand their training in political information and communication. Graduates or graduates in journalism, Sociology, Political Science, History, Philosophy and, in general, any degree in Social and Legal Sciences and Humanities.

access requirements

This training, at MECES 3 level, is aimed at students who have a previous university degree.

Students enrolled in a Bachelor's or Double Degree who have a maximum of 30 ECTS credits of an official university degree in Spain whose profile matches the functions legally provided for in the corresponding field will be able to access conditionally. In this case, no type of certification will be obtained until it is proven that one is in possession of the official university degree required for access to postgraduate education.

Exceptionally, they will also be able to access these professional studies without a previous official university degree that certifies work experience in this field. In this case, they will only be eligible for a diploma or a university extension certificate with the same name and number of credits as this Title, in accordance with the equivalence table included in Annex I of the Own Teaching Regulations of the Rey Juan University. Carlos.

The management will decide on the admission of candidates without a university degree, but with professional experience based on the following criteria:

  1. Proven professional experience in the field of knowledge.
  2. Years of experience in the political journalism sector.

This possibility must be included in the corresponding academic report and will be subject in all cases to the decision of the Course Director. People who access through this route will only receive a Diploma or a Certificate of University Extension depending on the case.
