Carlos Enrique Cuesta Quintero

Vice-rector for Teaching

 Computer Engineer (1997), Diploma in Physical Systems Computer Science (1994) and PhD in Information Technology (2002) from the University of Valladolid. The third National End of Degree Award (1995), and Extraordinary Doctorate Award (2004).

After nine years at the University of Valladolid, he joined the Rey Juan Carlos University in 2006; He is currently a member of the Department of Informatics and Statistics. Since 2019 he is a Full Professor of the University in the area of ​​Computer Languages ​​and Systems. He has been Deputy Director of Academic Planning and Head of Studies (2010-2015) and Academic Secretary (2012-2013) of the Higher Technical School of Computer Engineering; Director of the Master's Degree in Computer Engineering (2016-2022), and previously of the Official Master's Degree in Information Technology and Computer Systems (2006-2010), which obtained the Quality Mention from the Ministry of Education; Academic Deputy Director of the Master of Permanent Training in Data Science, from 2015 to the present. He has been Academic Director of Prospective Teaching and Research Staff (2020-2021), and Deputy Vice-Rector for Faculty (2021-2022). He was also a member of the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program in Information and Communication Technologies (2016-2022), as a representative of the line of research in Artificial Intelligence. He has directed four doctoral theses, more than 70 final degree projects, and more than 30 master's final projects.

He is a founding member, at the URJC (2011), of the Research Group for Excellence in Data and Software Engineering (VorTIC3), in which he currently carries out most of his research activity. His main field of research is Software Architecture in all its variants, from Dynamic Architectures to Self-Adaptive Systems, through Design Decision Modeling, Service-Oriented Architectures, Systems-of-Systems, Composition Invasive, Agreement Technologies or Mobile Systems. In recent years his research has focused on Data Architectures, Streaming Systems, Transport Systems and Digital Twins. He also follows a long tradition in the study of Formal Methods in Software Engineering, with special emphasis on applications of polymorphic calculus-pi. He has twice been President (Program Chair) of the European Conference on Software Architecture (2012, 2018), one of the reference events in this field; being also a member, since its foundation (2007), of its Steering Committee. He is Secretary of this Committee since January 2023.

Most of his publications can be found on DBLP (https://dblp.org/pid/00/3375.html) and ORCID (https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0286-4219). He has been an evaluator at ACAP and at ANEP, at AENOR and the MICINN; and from 2018 to 2022, from the MadrI+D Foundation for Knowledge.
