Basic Information

Introduction

The Expert course titled 'Designing experiments and using mixed models in R' is conceived as a direct response to the growing social, scientific and professional demand to acquire advanced skills in planning and analyzing experiments in a complex data environment. Today, experimental design and mixed model management are essential competencies in a variety of fields, from scientific research to decision making in business and problem solving in everyday life. This course aims to satisfy this demand by delivering rigorous and practical content, supported by the use of the R platform, a widely recognized tool in the field of statistics and data analysis. By equipping participants with these skills, the course aims to empower them to address scientific, professional and cultural challenges in a more effective and evidence-based manner, thereby promoting a higher level of competence and excellence in their respective fields.

Objectives

  1. Understand the Fundamentals of Experimental Design: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to explain the fundamental concepts of experimental design, including the identification of variables, the formulation of hypotheses, and the planning of experiments.
  2. Master Using R for Statistical Analysis: Students will acquire advanced skills in using the R platform to perform complex statistical analysis, graph generation, and data visualization.
  3. Apply Mixed Models in Practical Problems: Students will be able to apply mixed models to analyze data and make informed decisions based on the results.
  4. Develop Technical Communication Skills: By the end of the course, students will have improved their technical communication skills, being able to present analysis results clearly and effectively through technical reports and presentations.
  5. Foster Professional Ethics in Research: Students will understand the importance of ethics in experimental research and data management, and apply ethical principles in their work.

This training is aimed at students who have a previous university degree.

Students enrolled in a Bachelor's or Double Degree who have a maximum of 30 ECTS credits of an official university degree in Spain whose profile matches the functions legally provided for in the corresponding field will be able to access conditionally. In this case, no type of certification will be obtained until it is proven that one is in possession of the official university degree required for access to postgraduate education.

Exceptionally, they will also be able to access these professional studies without a previous official university degree that certifies work experience in this field. In this case, they will only be eligible for a diploma or a university extension certificate with the same name and number of credits as this Title, in accordance with the equivalence table included in Annex I of the Own Teaching Regulations of the Rey Juan University. Carlos.

In order to take the course, participants will need to have basic knowledge of R, a laptop, recent versions of R and RStudio, and a set of R packages whose installation instructions will be sent before the course.

In reference to people who opt through the quota reserved for people with disabilities, victims of terrorism and gender victims, we indicate that from the organization of the course we will try to make the means we have available if it is necessary to make any adaptation of material resources, infrastructure and services.

Selection criteria

In the event that the number of applications exceeds the number of places offered, a selection will be made based on the following objectively weighted criteria as stated:

  1. Academic Qualification (Weighting: 40%): The adequacy of the applicant's academic qualification will be evaluated in relation to the content and level of the courses offered. Higher scores will be assigned to applicants whose degree is directly related to the course's field of study.
  2. Professional Situation (Weighting: 30%): The applicant's current professional situation will be considered. Those who are working or researching in a field related to the courses will be positively valued, as this will indicate a practical application of the knowledge acquired. Applicants who are undergraduate, master's or doctoral students, researchers and university professors will also be evaluated based on their academic standing and their potential to apply the knowledge acquired.
  3. Level of Studies (Weighting: 30%): The applicant's level of studies will be taken into account. Higher scores will be assigned to those who are in advanced stages of their studies, such as Master's or PhD students, as they are expected to have a stronger level of understanding and experience in the area of ​​study.
