The Faculty of Health Sciences and the Technological Support Center (CAT) of the URJC create and start up an operating room for swine surgery at the CAT facilities in Alcorcón. This operating room allows training, research and innovation in surgical techniques, such as laparoscopy or robotic surgery. This facility and its equipment (anesthesia towers, laparoscopy/endoscopy equipment, simulators, etc.) allow surgical specialists to be trained in different surgical techniques with a pig animal model, before performing them directly on patients.

This initiative will allow specialized training for health professionals, as well as other disciplines related to surgery and anesthesia, such as veterinary medicine. On the other hand, it opens a door to preclinical research in the pig model where the collaboration of basic and clinical researchers is of the utmost importance to carry out more translational research in the face of patient needs.

The start-up of the operating room with the first laparoscopic intervention has had the participation of the surgery team of the Gynecology Service of the Rey Juan Carlos University Hospital in Móstoles, directed by Dr. Rosario Noguero, as well as all the Unit staff CAT Veterinary and the collaboration of the company Karl Storz.
