The consolidated group of 'Obesity and type 2 diabetes: biology of adipose tissue' (BIOFAT), led by Professor David Sánchez-Infantes, in collaboration with the group of Dr. Laura Herrero from the University of Barcelona, ​​have described that Interleukin-16 (IL-16), a cytokine that appears elevated in patients with obesity, could have direct effects on the biology of adipose tissue. Furthermore, the results suggest a role for IL-16 in lipid metabolism and inflammation, potentially opening new therapeutic avenues to prevent and treat obesity and its associated pathologies.
