The student of the double degree in Journalism and Audiovisual Communication, from the URJC, is in the last year of her degree and tells how her time at the FCCOM has been.

Paula Sánchez Gómez is finishing the fifth, and last, course of the double degree, of the Rey Juan Carlos University, of Journalism and Audiovisual Communication in the Madrid campus of Fuenlabrada. She began her university studies in September 2016, in face-to-face mode.

She decided to study Journalism and Audiovisual Communication, because since she was little she always loved the world of cinema and acting. With more age, she Paula discovered another of her passions, the world of television. In addition, according to the student, this double degree “was the perfect combination for my two passions; the world of cinema on the one hand and the world of journalism on the other”. "Today you have to stand out from the rest in some way, and choosing a double degree is a good way to start," says the girl.

Q: Why did you decide to study at the Rey Juan Carlos University?

A: I selected this university because it was one of the few that offered this double degree. In addition, I had good references from her and the facilities were very good.

Q: For someone who is thinking about studying or switching to a double degree, what benefits have you observed from being in a double degree?

A: The benefits are many, starting with the fact that in just five years you leave with two careers. Obtaining a double degree is reason enough for choosing a double degree to be the best option. On the other hand, it is worth mentioning that you leave with much more knowledge and with a greater range of opportunities.

Q: What did you like the most about the race?

A: The practical classes have been very beneficial. In the end, until you get down to work you don't know how to apply the knowledge. In the radio studios, on the TV set, recording on campus, in editing... they have been precious subjects that allowed us to work as a team, be creative and begin to feel part of this profession.

Q: What is learned in this double degree?

A: In Journalism, you start by giving its fundamentals, writing, journalistic genres in a theoretical way... and once you have a base, the most practical classes begin to come, such as Radio Creation. As for Audiovisual Communication, there are subjects in editing, production, direction... as well as film or script.

Q: What have been your favorite subjects? For what reason?

R:The Audiovisual Communication subjects have been a great discovery, seeing all the work behind the camera completely changes the perspective when it comes to seeing the final result. The subjects in which we edited videos, produced news, recorded short films, wrote movie scripts... have been a free letter of creation and have personally helped me to see other opportunities that I was not aware that I liked.

Q: Being a double degree, are there differences in the external internships and the end-of-degree project compared to a normal degree?

R:As for external internships, there is no difference, you just need to do some internships. However, you have to do two different TFGS.

Q: Do you have any preferences for your professional future, do you prefer to work in the area of journalism or in another audiovisual communication area? If so, has it changed from when you started?

A: I was very clear that I wanted to dedicate myself to sports journalism, and the degree has confirmed it for me. It is true that I have discovered other areas that call my attention, but I am going to lean towards my passion, which is the world of sports.

Q: What advice would you give to all those students who want to study the same as you?

A: Be patient because at the beginning all the races are very theoretical and the most fun comes in the later courses.

Q: Now that you have finished your degree, what are your expectations for the future?

A: I leave with a great desire to apply everything I have learned these years to a job, I am very motivated to start in the world of work. The future that is presented to us young people may not be the easiest, but I leave very positive with a lot of desire to find a place for myself.

Q: And finally, how would you define your time at university?

A: My time at the university has been five years but I have the feeling that it has been much less time, it has flown by. It has been very intense, in which I have met many people, and also, I have known myself better. It has been a time of overcoming challenges linked to my passion, so it has been beautiful.
