Get to know the FCS research groups: cognitive neuroscience

Posted by Francisco Molina Rueda

The research of this group aims to increase the knowledge and understanding of chronic pain disorders and improve the quality of life of these patients through the implementation of various interventions to improve their cognition and pain

La scientific activity of this group consists of to study the cerebral indices of cognitive and affective processes in the general population and in patients with chronic pain, to investigate cognitive dysfunction and pain modulation by psychological factors in patients with fibromyalgia from neuropsychology and the study of brain activity and to plan neuropsychological interventions and neurofeedback to improve cognition and pain responses in fibromyalgia.

In addition, this group has lines of research whose objective is to analyze the electrical activity of the brain in children with migraines and tension headaches, as well as to design treatment strategies for migraines and tension headaches in children through the use of neurofeedback.

The research of the Cognitive Neuroscience group aims to increase knowledge and understanding of chronic pain disorders, specifically, fibromyalgia and childhood headaches/migraines. Along with this, it is intended to improve the quality of life of these patients through the implementation of various interventions to improve their cognition and pain.

To carry out the lines of research carried out, this group usually uses the following techniques or methodologies to achieve the proposed objectives. 1) Electroencephalography: analysis of potentials related to brain events and oscillations; 2) Functional and anatomical Magnetic Resonance; 3) Neurofeedback; 4) Evaluations of cognitive function through neuropsychological batteries; 5) Analysis of genetic factors
