El world cancer day was born on February 4, 2000 at the world summit against cancer held in Paris. The letter from paris has as purpose research and prevent cancer, improve patient care, raise awareness and mobilize the global community to make progress against cancerr, and includes the adoption of World Cancer Day.

The Faculty of Health Sciences joins the purpose of this day to make visible the work of professors and researchers from research groups, university hospitals, primary care centers and socio-health centers in cancer care, care and research. It is a day to make patients and their struggle visible. 

In our college there are various Investigation groups that study how to prevent or fight cancer. The High Performance Research Group on Molecular Bases of the Association of Diabetes with Cancer of the URJC (DIABECANCER MOLECULAR), coordinated by Professor Custodia García, is a good example of it. The group has conducted research on the search for molecular biomarkers in cancers associated with diabetes, analyzing the role of metabolism and treatments.

He too High Performance Research Group in Physiopathology and Pharmacology of the Digestive System of the Rey Juan Carlos University (NeuGut-URJC), coordinated by Professor Raquel Abalo, has obtained important discoveries in this matter. Specifically, they made a Preclinical characterization of gastrointestinal motility disturbances associated with cancer chemotherapy and  effects of cannabinoid agonists/antagonists in them. you can read more here. 

On the other hand, Professor J.Ernesto Moro coordinates a research group on the association between Human Papillomavirus and cancer. 

Similarly, the Alcorcón Foundation University Hospital has a Oncology Research Group and a URJC-HUFA-Roche Chair of teaching innovation and research in Oncology.
