The purpose of the agreement is to “agree on the organization, development and celebration of an exhibition resulting from the results of an architectural project competition to design and prototype booths, stands and pavilions in a space designated for this in the El Retiro Park, in the context of the 2024 Madrid Book Fair, declare the signatory parties.

Among the selected projects is the work carried out by Raquel Obradors, a 5th year student of the Degree in Fundamentals of Architecture at the URJC. Obradors points out that the realization of this project “involves combining creativity, respect for the environment and sustainable considerations. The proposal should integrate harmoniously with the landscape, using materials that respect the history and ecology of the place, and ensuring that the design allows for efficient assembly and disassembly, minimizing the impact on the environment.”

On the other hand, Laura Talavera's project is another of the contest finalists. The 3rd year student. Double Degree course in Fundamentals of Architecture and Comprehensive Design and Image Management states that applying the principles of the circular economy in an architectural project for an open space such as the Madrid Book Fair involves “working with materials that have already been had a use, such as pallets, transport boxes or plastics of different types; and that, once used at the Fair, they can be used again.”

From the management of the Book Fair, they highlight the importance for the future that this agreement implies, "the collaboration with the architecture students of the Rey Juan Carlos University allows, on the one hand, to take the Fair to the place where those who they will build the future; and, on the other hand, knowing how university students imagine the space of books and their own presence in them,” says Eva Orúe, director of the Book Fair.

The agreement reached between the two institutions will be valid for one year and may be extended for a period of up to four additional years.
