Six final year students of the Degree in Food Science and Technology at URJC, under the supervision of four professors of the Degree, have decided to continue the project “Eating is not wasted” to carry out their Final Degree Project in a group using the Service-Learning (ApS) methodology

This year 2021 has been declared by the FAO as the "International Year of Fruits and Vegetables", so in the 2nd Edition the project will focus on these foods, with the slogan “Fruits and vegetables, everything to gain and nothing to lose”. In this 2nd Edition of the project, the aim is to provide a training service to citizens, informing about the benefits and healthy properties of these foods, as well as simple and practical advice to reduce their waste. According to MAPA data, food waste in households accounts for 42% of the total and, in our country, fruit and vegetables lead the waste, accounting for 44,3% of it, which is certainly an unsustainable practice. For all these reasons, they have decided to launch this project with which they will also be contributing to the achievement of several of the Available Development Goals (SDGs) that are part of the WHO 2030 Agenda.

Due to the pandemic situation in which we find ourselves, the training and awareness service for citizens will be carried out, for the most part, in a online Through the page project website and social networks like Instagram (@foodhasnowaste), Twitter (@antd_urjc) and Tik Tok (@feedwithoutwaste). In addition, thanks to the collaboration agreement with the Fuenlabrada City Council, theoretical and practical face-to-face workshops will be given in different Social Services Centers in the municipality. Lastly, it is worth mentioning the collaboration in the project of the consumer association HISPACOOP and the NGO Global Action Plan, with which it will work to boost its project fact! and in the Activate+/Reactivate+ initiative in which the URJC participates.
